The History of Our Church
Clear Creek Church of Christ

The Clear Creek Church of Christ began in 1933 with four women who met together in their homes.  As the church grew, they met in a store building, a lodge hall and a restored chicken house until finally they bought their own facility.  In 1947, the 37 baptized believers called themselves the Hamill Road Church of Christ.

In the 50’s, Hixson experienced a surge of growth as workers moved into the area for employment at the then new Dupont Nylon plant and TVA.  Church membership was approaching 300 and the small frame building was filled to capacity.  In order to accommodate continued growth, leadership purchased property at Hixson Pike and Cloverdale with the dream of building a facility that would seat 750.  The congregation began worshiping at the Cloverdale Drive location on November 13, 1960.

In 2001, leadership accepted the challenge to greatly expand our ministry to accommodate the needs of our growing community.  Sunday attendance began to approach 700 and we purchased 110 acres at Hixson Pike and Clear Creek Road, in anticipation of relocating.  The vision for this ministry included a larger facility that would accommodate young families and youth, a retreat/mission center that will train missionaries and offer support for marriages and addictions, senior citizen community, ball fields, picnic area and a link to the Chattanooga Greenway.

Throughout the 75 years of our history, one thing stands out above all else.  God’s boundless faithfulness!  He has been with us through the hard times as well as the good, and as we seek His guidance in the future He will direct our paths into greater service to our community, to Chattanooga, to Tennessee, and to the world.
